Gets It, Wants it, & Has the Capacity

Also known as the GWC Principle, this helps to keep your core values in line with hiring decisions. Using this simple principle you can assess if your team has the right person in the right seat while on your way into the future.

Here’s how:

Gets it.

Do people understand what the responsibilities of the role are? Do they understand what we are hoping they will be able to accomplish within their role?

Wants it:

Do they want it? This can be tricky. New hire’s can be guarded about whether they want the role, so it can be difficult to determine the level of commitment a potential hire has. This can affect how happy and effective someone is within their role.

Has the Capacity to do it:

This is the most challenging as an owner. Capacity can mean anything from training, to skills, to time, and resources.

Before you can answer these questions when looking at an employees performance, you first have to take a look at the role and what your expectations are from that particular position. Come up with approximately 4-5 bullet point expectations for each role within your brokerage and use this as a framework to evaluate employees.
